SEO Ranking
Better SEO Ranking in 5 steps
SEO Ranking or search engine optimization ranking, How do you obtain it? We all want to rank number one on Google, Yahoo, Bing and all the other search engines. So everyone will be trying to knock you off the top spot, but before you can be knocked of that top spot you have to knock everyone else off. So how do you improve your SEO Ranking?
Step 1. Choose The Right SEO Ranking Keywords
You need to start with the right keywords to base your website optimization on. This is the important first step. General or generic keywords that everybody is trying to rank for is usually not the best approach unless you have a lot of money to spend on seo ranking, and sometimes it’s better to be a little more specific and focus on niche keywords relating to your product or service.
Being more specific, means:
1. Targeting a more suitable market that is looking for your content.
2. Competing with fewer websites targeting the same keywords.
3. Optimizing for keywords that people actually use when performing searches.
Targeting a suitable market will depend on your website, as well as the products and services you offer. You need to be specific with your keywords, people no longer use single keyword search phrases any more – the average search phrase contains 3-5 related words.
I’ll not go into keyword research here but you can find out more about it at Marketing Secretz.com. But the general rule is you want keywords that have a high search but low competing number of sites.
Step 2. Your Domain Name and Title Tag
If you can, buy a domain name with you keyword in it. As two of the most important determining factors in Google’s SEO ranking are your domain name and title tag.
The domain name you want maybe already be taken or you already have a domain name you want to use, well there are two ways around this. Subdomains and adding keywords to page addresses. If you look at the domain name for this site, trafficsecretz.com is the domain name and “seoranking” before it is the subdomain name which is the keyword this site is optimized for. The other way is domainname.com/keyword.html. It would have been nice to use the correct domain name without adding the subdomain, but you can not always buy the domain name you need so you may have to get inventive.
Your title tag is equally as important as your domain name. Using keywords in your title tag will improve your Google ranking significantly. Trying to achieve a balance of professionalism with keyword density in the title tag however is sometimes a little more difficult. The keyword needs to be as near the start of your title as possible.
Step 3. H1 Tags and Keyword Density
For Heading tags or <h1> tags the Google ranking algorithm dictates that if you’re using a <h1> tag, then the text in between this tag must be more important than the content on the rest of the page. What this means is: <h1>Google sees this text as more important</h1>
<p>… than this text</p>
Now H1 tags aren’t the best in terms of formatting, so using a CSS style to override the default look is usually the best idea:
H1 { color: Red; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 14px }.
Keyword density simply means the ratio of optimized keywords to the rest of the content on your page. It is usually expressed as a percentage, and should be about 4% or what ever the latest trend is for each page of your website. So add keywords throughout your page content to improve your sites keyword density.
But Don’t overdo the keyword density as the content still has to read naturally.
Step 4. Links, Links and More Links
Links, incoming links or back links as they are know are what will drive your site pass all the websites that have done all the above as well as you. A back link is when another site uses a hyperlink to connect to your website. Like this one Affiliate Internet Marketing Tools. (This is know as anchor text) The idea is the more back links you have, the higher your pages will be ranked, as your website must be good if so many other sites are linking back to it.
Submitting your site to dmoz.org, Yahoo! and other directories is also an important step to increase the number of sites linking back to yours. Back links should take time, if you gain 100 links over night the search engines are going you question this and knock you down the rankings. For more detail on back linking the white hat way check out Commission Ritual. This course by Brian G. Johnson has some great linking methods that work. I use them for my websites.
Step 5. Load Speed
The time it takes for your website to load in the near future may become a ranking factor. So a website that loads in 1 second will rank higher than a site that loads in 5 seconds. So reduce all the redundant rubbish from your site. Do you need the flashy graphics? The 5 MB pictures when a 0.5 will do?
